Due to structural constraints, diesel generator sets cannot be completely waterproof. When the rainy season/typhoon season comes, diesel generator sets may be affected by natural disasters such as floods and rainstorms. When water enters the diesel generator set, the user must take necessary measures in time, disconnect the external power supply and battery connection line, do not run the engine, do not try to rotate the crankshaft, and prohibit running the engine. At the same time, check the water inflow in various parts.

Common problems with water inflow

• Check whether the drainage components of the exhaust pipe (the lowest point of the exhaust pipe or the muffler) have water discharged.
• Check whether there is water accumulation in the air filter housing and whether the filter element is soaked in water.
• Check whether the rotating parts such as the radiator, fan, coupling, etc. are blocked.
• Whether there is oil, fuel or water leakage outside.
• Remove the rocker cover and observe whether there is water inflow. Check the insulation/contamination of the generator winding.
• Detect the insulation of the control circuit and output circuit. Detect the control panel module, various instruments, alarm devices, and start switches.

Solution

• When it is determined that there is no water in the combustion chamber of the diesel generator engine and the insulation meets the requirements, the diesel generator can be started. Pay attention to the following issues when starting:
• Perform all inspections before starting, including draining the water in the fuel tank. The electrical system is powered on gradually to observe whether there are any abnormalities.
• The continuous engine start time shall not exceed 30 seconds. If the engine cannot ignite, check the fuel pipeline and electrical circuit, and start again after one or two minutes.
• Check whether the engine sound is abnormal and whether there is any odor. Check the display of the electrical instrument and whether the LCD screen is broken or unclear.
• Closely observe the oil pressure and water temperature. If the oil pressure or temperature does not meet the technical specifications, the engine should be turned off. After shutdown, check the oil level once.
